About

Founded in 1948, the Sierra Club San Diego Chapter is one of the oldest and most active environmental organizations in the region. The Chapter has been instrumental in establishing Torrey Pines State Park, saving Famosa Slough from development, protecting the La Jolla sea lion colony, and preventing a road from being built through Mission Trails Regional Park. Today the Chapter runs a robust outdoor program open to members and non-members alike — including hundreds of free day hikes, backpacking trips, bicycle outings, and car camps led by trained volunteer leaders across San Diego County and beyond. The Photography Club, Wilderness Basics Course, and Seal Society round out a community calendar that goes well beyond traditional environmental advocacy. Volunteer opportunities range from sea lion monitoring at La Jolla Cove to conservation committee work and community outreach. Office hours Monday–Thursday 10am–3pm at 4241 Jutland Dr, Suite 303, San Diego. Call 858-569-6005 or email scoffice@sierrasd.org.
