About

UC San Diego's Natural Reserve System manages four protected natural areas across San Diego County — Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Mission Bay, Dawson Los Monos Canyon Reserve in Fallbrook, Elliott Chaparral Reserve in Santee, and Scripps Coastal Reserve in La Jolla. Volunteer opportunities range from hands-on habitat restoration and native plant planting to wetland monitoring and citizen science data collection. The Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve hosts Wander the Wetlands events on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 9–11am in partnership with San Diego Bird Alliance. Volunteers can get muddy in the marsh, plant native plants, and patrol the intertidal zone. Students can fulfill community service credits. Contact nrs@ucsd.edu or call 858-534-2077 to get involved.
